BUNKER HILL, Ind. (Oct. 1, 2009) -- The JEGS Top Dragster Shootout that was to run in conjunction with the recent JEGS NHRA Northern SPORTSnationals was rained out along with all of the other event activities on Saturday at National Trail Raceway. Because the JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals event was the last race for the year in the Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster Series, the special JEGS Top Dragster Shootout has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 24, 2010 at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis.
JEGS’ John Coughlin and Division Director Jay Hullinger also announced that JEGS has extended their sponsorship of the JEGS Top Dragster Shootout through 2010, ensuring that the popular Shootout will return as one of the many features of the JEGS NHRA Northern SPORTSnationals at National Trail Raceway, September 25, 2010.
The field and ladder for the 2009 Shootout will remain as originally qualified as will with the “Wild Card” entry of Kurt Damron which was drawn from Friday’s Top Dragster qualifiers in Columbus. Should any alternates be needed to fill the eight-car field in Indianapolis, a drawing will be held from the Top Dragsters qualifying on Friday, April 23.
“The Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster Series has provided some great racing and the JEGS Top Dragster Shootout showcases the top racers from performances in both qualifying and eliminations,” said Hullinger. “The unique combination of qualifying points and points in the divisional standings has made for some great fields in the JEGS Top Dragster Shootout and we certainly appreciate JEGS’ continued support.”
The JEGS Top Dragster Shootout is among many NHRA sportsman programs the Delaware, Ohio-based high performance mail order giant supports. Other JEGS programs include the JEGS Allstars, which in 2010 will also feature Top Dragster and Top Sportsman, the North Central Division’s JEGS Super Quick Series and the three NHRA SPORTSnationals events.
