MOSER ENGINEERING EXTENDS NHRA MOSER SHOOTOUT, ADDS SOUTHEAST DIVISION

GLENDORA, Calif. – NHRA announced today that Moser Engineering has extend its sponsorship of the NHRA Moser Engineering Sportsman Shootout through the 2016 racing season.  Additionally the special Lucas Oil sportsman program will expand to include the NHRA Southeast Division in 2014

“We owe a big part of our success to the sportsman racers and with so many of them asking for this unique program it shows me it is time to expand it,” said Rob Moser, Moser Engineering.   “So, it is with a sense of pride that we can announce the expansion of the Sportsman Shootout into Division 2 for 2014. The Division 3 & 4 racers have really been vocal in their support of our unique program and to say the Sportsman Shootout has been well received is an understatement. This program is just another way for us to recognize all of those that support Moser Engineering and it is our way of saying thank you.”

The program was introduced in 2012 in both the NHRA North Central and South Central Divisions for competitors in seven classes: Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman.  Two racers from each of the seven classes qualify through a season points program plus two “wild card” entries from a drawing of online registrations on Moser’s website make up the 16-car Moser Sportsman Shootout fields that will offer a combined posted payout of $45,000 in 2014.

The 2013 South Central Division NHRA Moser Shootout will be held at the 2014 NHRA JEGS Cajun SPORTSnationals in March, the North Central NHRA Moser Shootout will be held at the JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals in September, and the Inaugural Southeast NHRA Moser Sportsman Shootout will be held at the season-ending NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Silver Dollar Raceway, Reynolds, Ga., in October.

“Moser Engineering has put together a sportsman racing program that will bring a lot of excitement to the Southeast Division,” said Rich Schaefer, NHRA Southeast Division director.  “We are honored that the Moser Sportsman Shootout has expanded to include the Southeast Division.”

To be eligible for the program, and earn points at in-division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events, racers must run the NHRA Moser Sportsman Shootout program decal.

IHRA Announces Return of Mountain Motor Pro Stock to Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series

Pro Stock returns to its quarter-mile home with IHRA

NORWALK, Ohio (December 11, 2013) – IRG Sports + Entertainment™ (IRG) and the International Hot Rod Association™ (IHRA) are thrilled to announce the return of one of IHRA's most treasured classes, Mountain Motor Pro Stock, to the Nitro Jam Drag Racing series in 2014 as these powerful machines return to quarter-mile competition with the IHRA next season.

Debuting with the IHRA in the early 70s as one of the IHRA's original and most unique classes, the stars of Mountain Motor Pro Stock will return to the IHRA in a 10-race championship to be held across the United States as part of the Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series. Mountain Motor Pro Stock will showcase an eight-car field with two rounds of qualifying on the first day of competition followed by an additional round of qualifying and three rounds of eliminations on the second day.

IHRA is thrilled to welcome Mountain Motor Pro Stock back to its national event lineup in 2014
This landmark announcement will partner one of IHRA's oldest and most exciting classes with an already thrilling lineup of nitro-driven competition in Nitro Funny Car, Nitro Harley and Nitro Altered and the world's only jet dragster championship as the IHRA brings together the best of both worlds in entertainment and competition within the drag racing industry.

"I am absolutely thrilled to welcome one of IHRA's core classes and a true fan favorite in Mountain Motor Pro Stock back to the ranks of the IHRA," said Scott Gardner, President of IHRA Motorsports. "Fans of these powerful cars are anxious to see them return to their natural environment on the quarter-mile and we are more than excited to provide the class a stage to showcase that incredible speed and raw power. The racers making up this class are all true professionals and the competition within their ranks is among some of the best in all of drag racing. I think they will add a unique and much-needed presence to the Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series in 2014."

Spearheaded by longtime Mountain Motor Pro Stock racers Pete Berner, Dean Goforth and Kevin Bealko, the all-new IHRA Mountain Motor Pro Stock class will feature a diverse lineup of racers from across North America. The class will feature a 10-race championship series with points-earning races being contested at IHRA national events in the United States.

Lead by longtime Pro Stock racers Pete Berner, Dean Goforth and Kevin Bealko (pictured), the Mountain Motor Pro Stock teams will contest a 10-race championship with the IHRA next season

Class rules and purse structure will be announced in the coming weeks.

"We appreciate IHRA bringing back Mountain Motor Pro Stock in 2014. Speaking for someone who has spent most of his racing career with IHRA, I feel I am back where I belong," said Berner, a two-time IHRA Pro Stock World Champion. "We are more than excited to return to quarter-mile IHRA racing. We have a great group of championship caliber racers, all with power to run in the low six second range given the right conditions. How can we not be excited? We cannot wait for the 2014 season to get underway."

With the return of Mountain Motor Pro Stock to the Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series, the IHRA continues its commitment in returning to its traditional drag racing roots within the professional ranks while also continuing to provide a concise and entertainment-driven event for fans of all ages.

"Our crew at Black Diamond Motorsports are fired up to be racing a full 2014 schedule with the IHRA," Bealko said. "We feel this opportunity gives our team the best venue to secure a future Pro Stock home with a great organization. The 2014 Nitro Jam schedule will be a great opportunity to interact with Pro Stock fans from all over North America. We look forward to racing our two Jerry Hass Camaro's and competing for an IHRA championship."

IHRA Announces Championship Lineup, $100,000 Purse for 2014 Nitro Funny Car Program

Championship lineup includes top racers from across North America

NORWALK, Ohio (December 10, 2013) – Following a landmark announcement made last month by the International Hot Rod Association™ (IHRA) announcing the return to traditional drag racing competition and a record championship points fund for Funny Car, the IHRA revealed the preliminary roster of championship drivers slated to compete in 2014 in its Nitro Funny Car class and announced that it has opened the class up to a limited field of competitors.

The field of competitors competing on the 2014 Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series in Nitro Funny Car will include some of the most decorated and successful nostalgia pilots in the sport, accumulating countless championships and major event wins over the past few years. The IHRA also announced that it will open the field up to a limited number of regional racers next season and will feature one fully open field race in July.

The 2014 IHRA Nitro Funny Car program will include an exciting mix of championship cars from across North America. Each event will feature a core collection of racers plus regional competitors.

In order to maximize the participation in IHRA's newly expanded Nitro Funny Car program, each Nitro Jam event will have quota system in place to not only insure that the teams that are committed to the entire tour will be racing for a world championship, but that local and regional competitors will have a chance to compete with the best cars in the country when Nitro Jam comes to their area.

The field will not be a traditional open field in most instances, but will instead follow this new program in order to maintain the quality, integrity and timeliness of the show that Nitro Jam fans have come to expect over the past several years. The quota will be determined on a market by market basis and be factored to suit the needs and demands of each event.

While the vast majority of races on the schedule will feature this new format, the Summer Nationals at Cordova Dragway Park, slated for the weekend of July 18-19, will feature the season's only unlimited Funny Car field as the Nitro Jam Series partners with the DRO series for this unique and historic race.

In addition to the race at Cordova, the events counting toward the 2014 Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series Funny Car championship will be contested at the Southwestern Nationals, San Antonio Nationals, Southern Nationals, Palm Beach Nationals, Spring Nationals, President's Cup Nationals, Mopar Nationals, Pittsburgh Nationals and Summit World Finals.

Multi-time champion John Hale will be among the drivers competing for the 2014 championship

"We would love to be able to accommodate everyone that has reached out to us and has interest in this program, but we want to present the best show we can in the timeframe that we have been working in," said Skooter Peaco, IHRA Motorsports Vice President. "Using a quota system will allow us to continue to work with the teams that have been supporting IHRA since the program started as well as those who make the commitment to run the entire tour. We also felt that it was very important for our program to have room to showcase teams that can only make a few events a year. The next group of touring teams will be made up of teams that are limited right now to racing within their region. So getting exposure for those teams now is critical."

The points earning Nitro Jam events will feature a category-leading $50,000 per event purse with the winner taking home $10,000. The Nitro Jam Tour will be backed by an incredible $100,000 points fund for the top five season-ending Nitro Jam points earners, with the World Champion receiving $50,000.

The field of teams currently committed to the entire Nitro Jam Tour includes a who's who list of the top Funny Car pilots from across North America. Drivers include major race winners, multi-time champions and heavy hitters from such major series as the Heritage Series, DRO Series and Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series. Those drivers include three-time and defending Heritage Series champion Jason Rupert's "Black Plague," two-time DRO series champion John Hale's "Nitro Boss," the always exciting Mark Sanders' "Mr. Explosive," record-setter Tim Boychuk's "Troy Lee Designs," Jim Broom's "Candies & Hughes" driven by Mike Halstead and, returning for a fourth year with the Nitro Jam Series, Mike McIntire's "McAttack."

"We want to make sure we have a system in place to work with all teams and build for the future," Peaco said. "It all comes down to presenting quality in any field of cars we showcase during the Nitro Jam portion of the event."

Teams interested in participating in this program can contact Mike Baker at mbaker@ihra.com or by calling the IHRA offices at (419) 660-4206.

NORWALK, Ohio (December 16, 2013) – Following on the heels of the exciting news that the Summer Nationals at Cordova Dragway Park will return to the Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series schedule in 2014, the International Hot Rod Association™ (IHRA) announced today that the event will also include a special open Wild Card competition for IHRA Summit Pro-Am Tour and ET bracket competitors in the region.

In addition to an exciting professional lineup, the Summer Nationals will feature a pair of individual sportsman races counting as an open in-division claim for IHRA Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL classes. This unique Wild Card event will provide an excellent opportunity for competitors within the region to pick up two event claims with reduced travel as well as provide racers new to IHRA an opportunity to compete with minimal expense and travel.

NHRA NEWS: PRO FUEL TO COMPETE FOR YEAR-END CHAMPIONSHIP IN NHRA HARLEY-DAVIDSON DRAG RACING SERIES

GLENDORA, Calif. – Riders in the Pro Fuel category of the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series will be competing for a national championship title beginning in 2014.  NHRA made the announcement today along with adding an Index 10.50 class and implementing a number of additional rules changes to other categories in the series, which is entering its second season.

Pro Fuel (formerly Pro Dragster) will compete at 10 events during the season and will count points from their best seven of 10 finishes toward the year-end championship, which will award a cash purse of $4,500 to the top three finishers with the champion also receiving an NHRA Championship Wally trophy and jacket.

“After a great inaugural season of the NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series, we’re adding more opportunities to showcase and reward the efforts of Harley-Davidson drag racers,” said Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Kris Schoonover. “We think these changes will help this program grow even stronger as we enter our second season.”

A seventh class has been added to the series that will be based off a 10.50 index and will be contested at all 10 Harley-Davidson Series events with racers competing for individual event honors and a Wally trophy.  The class is designed as an entry level class with a variety of Harley-Davidson motorcycle models being eligible for competition.

Several rules changes have also been made to open up the other classes and help grow the series. The 2014 NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series rulebook supplement and amendments can be found under the rules section on www.nhraracer.com.

The 2014 NHRA Harley-Davidson Drag Racing Series will run in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, with the Top Fuel Harley class also set to be featured at two of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series events. The series kicks off in March at Royal Purple Raceway near Houston.
