PST LAUNCHES REVOLUTIONARY DATA ANALYSIS SOFTWARE

BOHEMIA, N.Y. June 25, 2013:  From Performance Software Technologies (PST) comes a breakthrough in Drag Racing competition software. The same people that developed iCard software technology and the RatioTrax analysis for Lenco has now produced a program that builds upon and far surpasses those capabilities. TimeTrax is an encompassing software program that delivers race data directly to your computer via the internet. Launching first within the American Drag Racing League (ADRL), and with complete ADRL backing, TimeTrax will change the way racers analyze competition data.

Not only does TimeTrax deliver race data directly to users' computers, but it also allows users to sort and analyze that data to their advantage. Data, all collected by respected industry leader 1320go.com, can be sorted by class or session to give users a snapshot of each car in their respective category. For a more in depth look, users can isolate certain competitors to see how their runs measure up. TimeTrax then calculates the performance levels of these runs at every clock and split time. This is truly a revolutionary step in data analysis. The program is even versatile enough to allow users to compare across classes and categories, as well as lane to lane analysis.

Former World Champion and winner of the recent ADRL US Drags, John Montecalvo, has been testing the TimeTrax program and is thrilled with the results: "As a team, we take advantage of every opportunity to enhance our program. TimeTrax is another weapon in our arsenal that allows us to get an edge on the competition."

This user-friendly program also comes with simple features such as the "8 fastest" button which automatically compares your run with your eight fastest competitors. TimeTrax utilizes the power of the cloud to allow users to access all past events.

Another TimeTrax customer, Pro Stock driver and winner of the 2013 ADRL Spring Drags Trevor Eman, has also been pleased with his results from this program. "PST has programmed some great tools for drag racers, among them RatioTrax which we have been using for several years. The new TimeTrax is another great program to make our work behind the computer in the pit area just that much easier!"

TimeTrax isn't just for race teams! Braswell Carburetion utilizes the software to further assist their customer base. "The TimeTrax program has proven to be invaluable tool for working with our customers," told Doug Schriefer of Braswell Carburetion. "We have customers send us runs from the race track all of the time and while looking at their data is great, being able to look and see how they're running vs. the field in certain situations is extremely helpful. I can look at the data and think to myself they should be running better at this point on the track or that point based on the weather and the tune-up but when looking at the TimeTrax program I can see that they may have been much better in relationship to the field due to track conditions than I had previously realized. TimeTrax is taking things to the next level. Imagine tuning without having a time slip at all- that's what you're going to be thinking after using TimeTrax."

A program with these capabilities would be expected to cost thousands of dollars. Amazingly, Performance Software Technologies is offering it for just $59 per race or $395 per season. TimeTrax is available now for all ADRL events and will soon be launching into other series.

Giant Killer Zizzo Looking for More Hometown Success

Giant Killer Zizzo Looking for More Hometown Success

LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. – It may not be Kansas, but there's still no place like home for TJ Zizzo and the PEAK Motor Oil Top Fuel team.

This weekend, the Chicago native races at his home, and favorite, track, Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill. for the O'Reilly NHRA Route 66 Nationals. The state-of-the-art facility has seen Zizzo win rounds the last two years against two of the biggest names in the sport. In both 2011 and 2012, the second-generation racer qualified 16th and beat No. 1 qualifiers Spencer Massey ('11) and fellow Chicagoan Tony Schumacher ('12) in E1.

Looking back at last year's victory against the seven-time NHRA Mello Yello Series, Zizzo said he would have liked to have beaten "The Sarge" in a different manner, but any win against Schumacher is a good one.

"It was a great day," Zizzo said." I did not like the way I beat him. He had a huge explosion and after watching the replay I was happy he was not injured. Tony and I have talked many times leading up to that event, he never hesitates when I have a driving question or have a favor to ask of him, but I'm not going to lie, it felt great!

"The first time I qualified for a race in 2004 he beat me and I had lost to him four times after that. To finally beat him was a great feeling. Anytime we beat a Don Schumacher Racing team it, is a great sense of satisfaction. DSR has great teams and any time you pull to the line, you know you need to be on your game."

For Zizzo and his Chicagoland-based team, racing at Route 66 doesn't feel like a home race solely because of geography; the staff there has embraced the PEAK Motor Oil team and has made him feel like he's a part of the family.

"It is our home town track and we are lucky to have that track in our back yard," he said. "Over the years I have become very close to most of the personnel at the track, they treat me like family.  I made my first runs in top fuel at that track.  My wife and kids get a chance to come to the Chicago and that makes me feel great.  It is close enough where they can shoot up for the day and go back home at night.  Seeing my wife and kids at the track makes me smile.  Having my wife and kids at the track is something that is always missing except when I am at Chicago!"

TJ in the Media: TJ was featured on this week's edition of PRN's Nitro Notes as well as on NHRA.com. He was also the focus of an article talking about his recent foray into the world of road racing, the 24 Hours of LeMons.

Fans of TJ Zizzo and Zizzo Racing can find updates and photos of the PEAK/Herculiner Top Fuel team by checking out ZizzoRacing.com, Instagram.com/ZizzoPEAK, Twitter.com/TJZizzo, and Facebook.com/TJZizzo.

Zizzo Racing and the PEAK Motor Oil Top Fuel dragster are racing in their backyard at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., this weekend for the NHRA Route 66 Nationals. Nitro qualifying is scheduled for Friday at 5:15 p.m. and 8 p.m. local time and again Saturday at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. The first round of eliminations is set to kick off at 11 a.m. Sunday. For tickets to the event, click HERE.

Zizzo Racing Fast Facts:
  • Zizzo has piloted the PEAK Motor Oil Top Fuel dragster in the NHRA Full Throttle Series since 2003.
  • Zizzo's career-best ET is 3.843 (1000 ft.) achieved in 2012 in Englishtown, NJ. His career-best speed is 319.98 mph (1000 ft.) which came in Houston in 2012.
  • The NHRA Route 66 Nationals is the sixth race of the year for Zizzo.
  • This weekend is Zizzo's hometown race as the team is based in nearby Lincolnshire, Ill. He has qualified 16th the last two races here and defeated the No. 1 qualifier both times (Spencer Massey, 2011; Tony Schumacher, 2012).

RPM Working to Solidify NHRA Pro Mod Series for 2014 & Beyond

In January of 2013, twenty Pro Mod race teams formed the Real Pro Mod Association (RPM). Their main objective: find new sponsors to fund the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series for 2014 and beyond.  For this project, RPM has retained the services of Forward Sports Marketing to conduct a search for new sponsors and work with the NHRA to meet the goals.

"Forward Sports Marketing is working with potential sponsors interested in branding, midway activation, hospitality and electronic media available through the 10-race NHRA Pro Mod Series for at least the next three seasons (through 2016) and beyond," says Ryan Haas, FSM Director of Business Development. "We are really happy with the positive response we've been getting from companies. The RPM owners and drivers are very professional, well organized, and have a tremendous amount of value to offer sponsors."

At the same time the association has been working to secure funding, John Waldie, President of RPM has been talking to racers about increasing car counts in the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series.

"We already have a wonderful cast of drivers in the NHRA Pro Mod Series, including several drivers who are RPM board members including Danny Rowe, Troy Coughlin, Mike Castellana, Mike Knowles and Steve Matusek," said Waldie. "We've been told by multiple other teams that they're building new cars to bring to the NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series in 2014. The future looks very bright for the Series going forward."

Sponsor inquiries can be made to Forward Sports Marketing at (816) 246-8866 or email Ryan Haas at ryanhaas@fowardsportsmarketing.com.

The NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series starts the second half of their 2013 season in Norwalk, OH on July 5th – 7th, followed by remaining races at Indianapolis, Charlotte, St Louis and Las Vegas.

Huge horsepower on tap at BIR July 4th weekend

Craig Braun and his '68 Firebird. He was the No. 1 qualifier last year in the Pro Outlaw Class, posting the fastest speed at 212.13 mph and the best time, 6.467 seconds, but lost in the semifinals to eventual winner Dean Bauerly. Thanks for your consideration.

BIR’s Show & Go continues to be a popular Fourth of July tradition

BRAINERD, Minn. – The NAPA Auto Parts Show & Go has been a Fourth of July tradition at Brainerd International Raceway for the last 27 years, and this year’s event will show fans why Show & Go continues to be one of the most popular races at BIR each year.

This year’s event is July 5-7 and will feature drag racing, Superbike racing, a classic car show, fireworks, live music, kids activities, on-site camping and more.

At center stage, the second leg of the three-race Muscle Car Series will be on the drag strip for three days of intense racing by drivers battling for series championships. Fans will be treated to cars showing off huge horsepower and mind-blowing speeds, especially the cars competing in the Heads-Up Classes: Pro Outlaw, Outlaw, Real Street, True Street and the new 660 Outlaw Street Class. Fans can expect to see speeds over 200 mph and 6-second runs.

The series’ first event was Memorial Day weekend during the Street Car Showdown. Bill Krech and his 1969 Camaro took the Pro Outlaw Class after posting the weekend’s fastest speed of 214.66 mph and the fastest time: 6.449 seconds. Jake Delmonico and his 1968 Camaro took the Outlaw Class after No. 1 qualifier Brian Carpenter posted the top speed in that class at 188.25 mph and the fastest time: 7.318 seconds.

BIR shortens the quarter-mile drag strip to one-eighth mile for the new 660 Outlaw Street Class. Equipment requirements level the playing field for this class, which was evident in the times during the Street Car Showdown. David Senderhauf Jr. beat No. 1 qualifier Jim Friendt in the finals to win the event’s first race. He ran 137.69 mph at 5.130 seconds. Friendt had the fastest time of 4.968 seconds all weekend, and Lucas Minor’s 156.64 mph run was the top speed for the weekend.

Senderhauf made the switch from the Real Street Natural Class, which he won in 2009, to 660 Outlaw Street because of the class’ parity. “It creates parity between the turbo cars and the nitro cars,” he said. “In this class, it’s anyone’s game. If you goof up, the race is over – you have no chance to recover.”

In addition to the Heads-Up Classes, the Muscle Car Series includes three Strip Eliminator Classes, Truck Eliminator, Manual Transmission and 10 Index Classes. The winners of the Index Classes get paired up to determine the Index Class Champion.

Time trials and qualifying are Friday and Saturday. Elimination rounds are Sunday. Racing starts at 9 a.m. daily.

While the drag racers are duking it out on the drag strip, motorcycle racers will be on BIR’s 2.5-mile Competition Road Course for three days of insane Superbike racing, courtesy of the Central Roadracing Association (CRA). Fans can watch knee-dragging racing by some of the top amateur Superbike racers in the Upper Midwest who scream around the 13-turn highly technical track at over 80 mph. Superbikes run rain or shine.

The CRA’s main event will be at 3 p.m. Saturday during a three-hour Team Challenge race. Otherwise, most of the racing is eight-lap sprints Saturday and Sunday, with practice sessions on Friday. Superbike racing starts at 9 a.m. daily.

There will be plenty to see and do off the track as well. Saturday’s schedule includes activities for kids from noon to 3 p.m., a classic car show from 1-4 p.m., a fireworks display and live music by Junk FM starting at 9 p.m. in BIR’s Wheelie Bar & Grille.

“There’s a good reason that the NAPA Auto Parts Show & Go is one of our most popular events,” BIR Owner Jed Copham said. “We have so much for our fans to do, especially on Saturday, with great racing on two different tracks, activities for kids, a classic car show and a lot more. And with our on-site camping, you get a really affordable weekend with the chance to seen some great racing.”

Tickets are available at the gate. Daily admission is $25 – kids 12 and under are free. On-site camping is free with the purchase of a multi-day ticket.

BRACKET DRAG RACING THIS WEEKEND

Brainerd International Raceway's Bracket Drag Racing Series is on the quarter-mile drag strip this weekend, with racers battling for championships in 10 classes.

The six-weekend, 12-race series features more than 250 amateur drag racers competing for series points, prize money and, ultimately, a series championship. Drivers compete in dragsters, cars, motorcycles, trucks, snowmobiles and Junior Dragsters. In past years, class winners were determined on Sunday only, after time trials and qualifying all day Saturday. But this year, class winners will be determined Saturday AND Sunday. Each class will have one round of time trials at the beginning of the day and then start elimination rounds until class winners are determined at the end of the day. Racing starts at 9 a.m. daily.

Bracket racers will be sharing BIR this weekend with the Zalusky Advanced Riding School, which will be on the 2.5-mile Competition Road Course Sunday. The school is an advanced instructional program for motorcycle riders, some of whom are skilled Superbike riders and challenge themselves and the 13-turn course.

BIR will also be hosting Lakes Jam this weekend, a two-day music and camping festival. The schedule includes three bands Friday night, headlined by the Kentucky Headhunters. Saturday's schedule is headlined by REO Speedwagon and includes Great White, Night Ranger,  ThundHerStruck and Sena Ehrhardt.

Tickets are being sold separately for Lakes Jam. Admission to watch the Bracket Drag Racing Series and the Zalulsky school is $15. Kids 12 and under are free, and camping is free with a multi-day ticket.

Bracket drag racing has been part of BIR’s racing program for over 30 years and has turned out some of the Midwest’s top amateur drag racers, many of whom have gone on to race professionally. It’s an exciting form of racing that created a unique community, where racers and their friends, families and fans enjoy a weekend at the track and a chance to socialize with others with a passion for racing. But it also means some highly competitive drag racing for fans.

Bracket racing is a handicapped form of competition where two vehicles of varying performance potentials can race on a potentially even basis. The anticipated elapsed times for each vehicle are compared, with the slower car receiving a head start equal to the difference of the two. With this system, virtually any two vehicles can be paired in a competitive drag race.

Now in its 45th season, Brainerd International Raceway is one of North America’s largest race tracks, featuring a world-class quarter-mile drag strip, the 3.1-mile, 10-turn Donnybrooke Road Course, the 2.5-mile, 13-turn Competition Road Course, 300 acres for rustic camping, 164 full-service RV sites and 12 on-site condos. BIR is about 120 miles north of the Twin Cities. For more information, visit www.BrainerdRaceway.com, or call 1-866-444-4455.

Pat Musi Racing Engines Supports Sportsmen at the X-DRL Mayhem at the Creek

(June 25, 2013) KERRVILLE, TX – Pat Musi Racing Engines has long been known for its 903 cubic-inch fuel injected nitrous racing engine that has become a popular choice for numerous Pro Nitrous and X-Treme Pro Modified standouts.

But Musi also has a great deal to offer to the talented drivers in the sportsman ranks and that will become even more evident at the X-DRL's upcoming Mayhem at the Creek, which takes place July 26-27 at Maryland International Raceway.

There, Pat Musi Racing Engines is sponsoring half of the Mickey Thompson Top Sportsman entry fees for the event, lowering the entry fee to just $125 per competitor at the race.

"I love racing at Maryland International Raceway," Musi said. "In fact, I hold the Pro Mod Nitrous quarter-mile record of 5.926 at 241.58 mph, set in 2011. But I also have strong ties to sportsman racers; my daughter Lizzy races in that class, and I am always glad to help them out if I can. This is something I really wanted to do and I look forward to seeing a large competitor count in the class at MIR."

That is evident in sponsoring half of the entry fees at the Mayhem at the Creek for all Mickey Thompson Top Sportsman racers. The X-DRL is also supporting the class by waiving membership requirements and allowing IHRA-certified chassis and licenses for this event. With the maximum dial-in increase to 4.99 in May, the X-DRL is making the Mayhem at the Creek the place for top sportsmen to race.

"Sportsmen racers represent the heart of racing and we are glad to see these changes from the X-DRL as well as support from a legendary name in racing like Pat Musi for our first X-DRL event," said Royce Miller, owner/operator at MIR.

Musi, who plans to be at the race with Lizzy, is also adding a $300 contingency sponsorship for his water-injected system used by many top sportsman drivers.

"It's a great system, it saves parts and helps you get more runs out of your engine, so it only makes sense to add a contingency sponsorship for this system at the Mayhem at the Creek for the Mickey Thompson Top Sportsman class, even if they don't run our engines," Musi said.

Musi's list of successful customers includes the likes of Rickie Smith, Robert Patrick, John Hall, Chuck Mohn, his daughter, Lizzy, and many more. Musi, who has eight championship titles racing in the Pro Street class, recently moved his race shop to Mooresville, N.C. The new, 11,000-square foot state-of-the-art facility offers a multitude of services, giving Musi and his 40-year business a chance for even more growth.

‘Reaper’ Team Bringing the Fun Back to Drag Racing, Ready to Rock in Edmonton

'Reaper' race team bringing the fun back to drag racing

Brant to debut latest creations when IHRA returns to Castrol Raceway July 5-7

EDMONTON, Alberta (June 27, 2013) – The ground shakes and the air instantly fills with the familiar fumes of the alcohol-fed engines of the fan-favorite nostalgia Funny Car class.

A beautiful girl outfitted in a pair of tight-fitting shorts and a tank top that reads "Reaper" across the front runs out onto the track, guiding the ghoulish 1977 Firebird Funny Car back into position. In the background are a few additional girls, cheering loudly for their driver as he gets ready to make his run.

David Brant's 'Reaper' Funny Car has become a fan-favorite at the IHRA's Rocky Mountain Nationals

Also in the background is a truck. Sitting in the back of that truck is a homemade thrown sitting nearly six-feet tall outfitted with skulls, smoke machines and even a pair of flame-spouting pipes. And atop that thrown is a man dressed as the grim reaper himself, fitted with a silver racing helmet, a scythe and a long black robe.

It is just another day in the life of Funny Car driver David Brant.

Piloting the "Reaper" nostalgia Funny Car on the Rocky Mountain Nostalgia Funny Car circuit, Brant has made a name for himself looking at the sport of drag racing from a different perspective. In fact when talking with the veteran driver about the very sport he has dedicated his life too, it is easy to forget that there is even any actual racing involved.

For Brant, it is truly all about the fans.

"The sport of drag racing has such a rich history in entertainment. The cars we race have always been the real 'wow' factor in this sport, but for years people have taken that to another level with backup girls, incredible burnouts, show elements – all stuff we try to incorporate into what we do. After all, it really is all about the fans and making them identify with you and really get excited when you come to the line," Brant said. "This is such an exciting sport already, but when you throw in elements that helps fans identify with the car, with the driver, and establish a bit of a storyline, that only adds to the entertainment value. When I come to the line I want people to know 'that is the Reaper and he is going to put on a great show'. In the end it is still a race, but there is nothing wrong with adding a little extra excitement before each run."

Brant is a true entertainer, putting his fans first

Brant and his band of nostalgia Funny Car compatriots have become an exciting addition at many drag racing events throughout western Canada and the United States. Based in Fort McMurray, Alberta, Brant spends most of his time coming up with new and exciting ways to spice up the "Reaper" Funny Car team and make it more memorable for the fans.

Backup girls? Check. Men dressed in costume? Check. An elaborate design on the side of the car tying it all together? Double check.

And now he has even outfitted his setup with a flame-shooting, neon-lit throne for his grim reaper to sit atop. It would appear there is truly no limit in the name of entertainment.

"Over the winter we built a throne for our grim reaper to sit on. Throughout the day he will be resting in his chair so that the kids can come over and get their picture taken with him," Brant said. "It's all in the name of fun which is really what this is all about."

From the 'Reaper' girls to the Grim Reaper himself, Brant has an elaborate setup at each event

The highlight of the Canadian-based nostalgia Funny Car group's schedule is the crown jewel of the International Hot Rod Association's professional drag racing series, the MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals at Castrol Raceway slated this year for July 5-7. What began as an exhibition class at the event years ago has grown into an integral and very popular part of Canada's biggest drag race and Brant certainly enjoys that added excitement at the very event where he got his start in drag racing a few years ago.

"The MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nationals is where it all started two years ago for Brant Family racing. We had never even been down the track before 2011," Brant said. "I can't say enough to my family, crew and all of the fellow members of the club for the help they gave us. Now in our third year we are ready to battle it out and see if we can't come away with a trophy we really want to add to our collection."

But just because Brant is all about the show doesn't mean that he doesn't take the racing portion very seriously. While he spends a great deal of time coming up with ways to entertain the fans, he spends just as much time working on the car and getting it ready for passes approaching 200 miles per hour down the quarter-mile.

After all what is a great race team without a fast racecar?

Last year Brant qualified No. 1 in the 6.99 dial class, but he bowed out in the semifinals to eventual winner Shane Reykdal when he ran seven thousandths off the numbers, a run he would most definitely like to have back.

Don't miss the 2013 MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals July 5-7 at Castrol Raceway

"We have a tough road ahead this year as last year at the Rocky's we pulled a rabbit out of a hat and qualified first so we will have to see if we can do it again," Brant said. "There will be many talented drivers and crews there and it will be a very, very tough field so we will definitely need to have some luck on our side. We were out testing this past weekend and the crew and I feel confident that we have a strong running car. It will all be up to me to turn the win light on at the other end."

Still, even with a competitive car and a proven track record at the Rocky Mountain event, in the end it all comes down to putting on a show, which is something Brant can't wait to do when the IHRA returns to Castrol Raceway July 5-7.

"We plan on keeping spectators on their toes with awesome burnouts and lots of great side-by-side racing," Brant said. "We want to see everyone come and visit us in the pits as that is what it is all about – fan interaction. Our pit areas have all sorts of great things going on all weekend so we encourage fans to not be a stranger and to come visit all of us. We look forward to meeting each and every one of you.

"Without the fans, or the tracks, we would have no place to go to do what we love and that is ultimately the sport of drag racing."

The 2013 MOPAR Rocky Mountain Nitro Jam Nationals presented by Good Vibrations Motorsports is July 5-7 at Castrol Raceway. Fans can purchase their tickets at the track or online at www.nitrojam.com. Racing will take place all three days at Canada's biggest drag race.
