Dyno Don Nicholson - The Atlanta Years
Although not a native of Atlanta, Dyno Don Nicholson was arguably the most famous Atlanta area drag racer. Born in Missouri, Nicholson moved to southern California as a youth and grew up in the car culture. He began racing in 1949 and had racked up two consecutive NHRA Winternationals wins prior to moving to Atlanta in April, 1962.

Clay Millican won his fourth consecutive Top Fuel title at the IHRA ACDelco Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park Saturday night, and the nighttime final didn't slow him at all.
Herbert's Memorial Day is celebrated with sister overseas
Doug Herbert is spending Memorial Day testing at Heartland Park Topeka today. He's focused on improving his Snap-on Tools dragster's performance. But in the back of his mind, he's also thinking about a sibling. Herbert's younger sister, 32-year-old Heather Herbert, is in Baghdad, serving a yearlong deployment with the Judge Advocate General's Corp (JAGC).
Verona dragster wins top footbrake money
Eastside Dragway put $1,000 up for the footbrake drivers Friday night, and it was a vintage 1973 Pinto from Verona that topped the 46-car field.

Burkett not ready to put brakes on her career
Funny Car pilot Carolyn 'Bunny' Burkett, a popular name at drag strips for decades, is celebrating her 40th year in the sport with Hooters Drag Racing Series fans this season. Burkett, whose 60th birthday was Sunday, has decided to 'race for the fans' for the remainder of her career.

2005 NHRA Topeka Final Results
Final results and up to date POWERAde points standings from the 17th annual O’Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka.
NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Saturday, from Maple Grove Raceway, Reading, Pa.
In the final rounds of qualifying for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Northeast Division season opener, Jeff Bohr took the top spot in Top Alcohol Dragster at 5.450 seconds at 258.62 mph. In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Frank Manzo posted the only run in the 5.60's with a 5.695 second lap at 256.94 mph for the top spot.

Drag racer is happy to be close to home
Don't be surprised if Bert Jackson is the most relaxed driver at this weekend's International Hot Rod Association race in Dinwiddie. Jackson will be driving the 'Lucky Draw' Pro Stock car in his own back yard this weekend at the Virginia Motorsports Park, just minutes from the city of Glen Allen, where he grew up and currently lives.
