Ed Pauley is one of a special breed — willing to push a car to its limits just to beat the guy next to you. Pauley is something else, too. He’s a drag racing champion. He won the 2004 International Hot Rod Association Hot Rod Sportsman points race last weekend in Rockingham, overcoming a six-point deficit en route to winning his first-ever title.

Bill Stephens: Troy Coughlin moving to Pro Mod for '05
This week, Troy put the finishing touches on his 2005 drag racing plans that include entering a supercharged, alcohol-burning Pro Modified Ford Mustang in the NHRA's Pro Mod exhibition series. For Troy, it was a logical step for the Coughlin family "speed demon," moving from a 1200-horsepower Pro Stock Chevy Cavalier to an 1800-horsepower, blown doorslammer.

Team Kalitta set to field all three Top Fuel dragsters in Budweiser Shootout
Kalitta Motorsports team owner, tuner and drag racing legend Connie 'the Bounty Hunter' Kalitta knows how fickle drag racing can be. He's disappointed because one of his three nitro rails did not win the 2004 Top Fuel POWERade championship, but he is excited to have all three of his entries qualified for the lucrative Budweiser Shootout race-within-a-race at the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Oct. 28-31.
