PILGRIMAGE TO YORK ON SCHEDULE
YORK, PA - The annual pilgrimage to York, Pennsylvania for the 11th consecutive year is scheduled for July 13-14th at the York Expo Center, York Fairgrounds where World Champions, National Champions, Class Champions and a host of legends from the drag racing world will gather to pay their annual tribute to the famous York US 30 Dragway that hosted the "Woodstock of Drag Racing" and many world renowned events.
Legends scheduled are "Ohio George" Montgomery, Phil Hill, Carol "Bunny" Burkett, Arlen Vanke, Arnie "The Farmer" Beswick, "Miss Mighty Mopar" Judy Lilly, "Miss Hurst Golden Shifter" Linda Vaughn, Bud Faubel, Bob Harrop, George Nye, Tom Sneden, Bruce Larson, Joe Jacono, Wally Bell and many more.
The show/reunion features a Tribute to Pontiac with a special display of a Smokey and the Bandit Trans-Am and the Buford T Justice police car.
The York County SPCA has been the charity of choice for eleven years. The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing will be recipients of some added support from the show/reunion.
A special tour of the Harley Davidson plant in York is scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. with sign-up located in the lobby with a regular shuttle schedule to the EMMR museum from the show daily.
The show opens Friday, July 13th at 1 p.m. thru 8 p.m. and continues Saturday, July 14th 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Admission is $15.00 with children 12 and under free. Active military free with proper i.d. and free parking.
The show is followed on Sunday by the 9th Annual York Nostalgia Nationals at Beaver Springs Dragway, Beaver Springs, PA.

NHRA NEWS: TOP FUEL COMPETITION AS TIGHT AS EVER AS THE NHRA HEADS TO ATLANTA
COMMERCE, Ga. – As the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series heads south to Atlanta Dragway, May 4-6, for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals, the competition in Top Fuel is so tight predicting the race winner is nearly impossible.
Morgan Lucas has finished in 10th place in the championship points battle the last two years, but this season the outcome could be a lot different. The GEICO/Lucas Oil driver is coming off his second win and fourth No. 1 qualifying position of the season in Houston, which puts him in third place in the championship standings as the NHRA heads to Atlanta, site of his first career victory in 2009.
“Houston might have been the best race we’ve ever had,” Lucas said. “Not only did we qualify No. 1, but we had low elapsed time of every round on race day. That’s never happened for us before and the reason we're encouraged as we look forward to Atlanta.”
Top Fuel point leader and defending event winner Antron Brown hopes to continue the success he’s had this season. The Matco Tools driver has earned one victory in five final round appearances and has a little extra confidence from three career wins in Atlanta. Needless to say, Brown likes his chances as the team heads south.
"I've always considered it to be an East Coast track, an older track where guys like my dad and uncle raced," Brown said. "It's a track we visited often from Pro Stock Bike days to now. You get that sense of the great old tracks. It puts me back in my element - what I grew up around - and I feel real comfortable there.”
Brown’s DSR teammate Spencer Massey is in second place in the points thanks to three wins this season in his FRAM/Prestone Top Fuel dragster. As the circuit heads to one of Massey’s favorite tracks, he is out to prove that his second place finish last season was no fluke.
"For whatever reason, Atlanta likes me and I like Atlanta," Massey said. "Sometimes you shine at some tracks and others you don't. It's the luck of the draw in a way. It has nothing do with tune-up or whatever you might think, that's just how it works."
Massey’s DSR teammate Tony Schumacher may be experiencing the longest winless drought of his career, currently at 29 races, but thanks to three final round appearances this season “the Sarge” is in fourth place in the points order. Atlanta Dragway is one of the few tracks where the U.S. Army pilot has yet to win, but the way the Top Fuel competition has been, there is no reason why his 68th career victory couldn't also be his first in Atlanta.
“I’m a positive-minded person and truly believe we will take home a bunch of race trophies this year,” Schumacher said. “And, of course, we want to take home the biggest trophy of them all at the end of the year.”
Steve Torrence is making an impact in Top Fuel with his Capco Contractors dragster in his first season as a driver and team owner. He sits in sixth place thanks to back-to-back semifinal appearances and his first career No. 1 qualifying position. Al-Anabi driver Shawn Langdon is still seeking his first career win and sits in fifth place but with Alan Johnson (team manager) power, that car could end up in the winner’s circle on any given Sunday.
Team Kalitta drivers David Grubnic and Doug Kalitta are also keeping things interesting in the 7,000-horsepower class, as are Bob Vandergriff, Clay Millican, Brandon Bernstein, Terry McMillen and Khalid alBalooshi. The top 10 is anyone’s game this season and with 10 races remaining before the cut off for the Countdown to Championship the racing is expected to get even more exciting.
Funny Car has been dominated by John Force Racing as the team has won all six races this season led by Robert Hight who is the points leader, followed by Mike Neff who is in second and John Force who is seventh and Courtney Force in ninth. NAPA Auto Parts driver Ron Capps has rebounded well after a DNQ in Las Vegas and has moved to third after back-to-back final round appearances. His DSR teammate Jack Beckman is right behind him in fourth, Cruz Pedregon sits fifth, Bob Tasca III is eighth and Jeff Arend is in 10th.
In Pro Stock, the Summit Racing duo of Greg Anderson and Jason Line remain atop the points standings, while sophomore sensation Vincent Nobile moved to third after his win in Houston. Former Pro Stock world champ Mike Edwards is fourth, Nobile’s Dodge teammate Allen Johnson is in fifth, and Erica Enders sits sixth.
The two-wheel class heads to Atlanta for its third appearance of the season with the Screamin' Eagle Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson duo of Andrew Hines and Eddie Krawiec leading the championship points standings. Lucas Oil Buell rider Hector Arana Jr. is right behind them in third, followed by GEICO Suzuki rider Karen Stoffer. Matt Smith, Hector Arana Sr., Scotty Pollacheck, LE Tonglet, Michael Ray, and John Hall round out the top 10 in the class.

The new Capitol Raceway joins IHRA family of tracks
Under new management Capitol Raceway ready to return to glory days
NORWALK, Ohio (May 2, 2012)
– The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) is pleased to welcome
Capitol Raceway in Maryland to the IHRA family of member tracks.
The
track has signed a multi-year deal and will begin immediate competition
with Division 1 running the Summit SuperSeries presented by AMSOIL and
Moser Engineering and various other IHRA programs. Capitol Raceway will
be operated and promoted by Raceway Promotions, a company founded by
B.J. Herrell and John Crane, with Doug Farace acting as the track
manager.
"It's
exciting for the IHRA to bring Capitol Raceway into the family of
member tracks," said IHRA Division Director Jon O'Neal. "The history of
the facility makes it a unique track and with fresh ownership and
management they have been working hard to tune the facility for the
sportsman racers in the area. We are anxious to be able to offer the
Summit SuperSeries presented by AMSOIL and Moser to Capitol racers."
Capitol
Raceway, located in Crofton, Md., has been one of the premier drag
strips in the country over the last 50 years, with many of the greatest
names in drag racing history making laps at the facility during that
span. In its glory days Capitol Raceway was known throughout the country
for its match racing and promotional shows and the new owners hope to
restore the track to its roots with top level racing as well as acting
as a home for some of the best sportsman racing on the east coast.
"We're
certainly excited about this new endeavor," Crane said in a press
release. "We have big plans for Capitol Raceway and look forward to a
time that's not too far off where fans and racers make Capitol Raceway a
weekly destination. B.J. and I will do everything in our power to make
Capitol the place that keeps making history with every pass."
In
addition to competition in the Summit SuperSeries, Capitol Raceway
hopes to announce several special events for the 2012 calendar year. The
track will officially open under the direction of new management this
weekend with a test and tune for local racers.

the addition of Capitol Raceway the IHRA now has 97 tracks in 29 U.S.
states and territories, four Canadian provinces and four countries.

NORTH TONAWANDA, NEW YORK (May 2, 2012) – Well, we have got seven races this year, so that is seven chances to win one.
Jack Grainy, driver of the Grainy Brothers 1967 Chevy Camaro Pro Modified, has been racing in the Pro Modified Racing Association since the series' inception in 2005, and has yet to win an event. So, in the hopes of getting that illusive first win, the team has boosted its effort with some new engine equipment for 2012.We are ready to go, said Grainy, who has been racing since the mid-1970s. We have beefed up the engine and have a new blower setup with the help of Mike Janis.
He noted the team has installed a new data logger in the help of getting down the quarter mile with more success.
The Camaro, a G-Force Race Cars product, is powered by a 526-cubic inch Brad Anderson Supercharged Hemi built by Mike Janis Racing. A PSI Screw-type Supercharger sits atop the engine, which also features a Mike Janis Racing fuel system. This is backed up by a Lenco three-speed, and the car is capable of five-second runs at over 240 mph. The team placed eighth in the PMRA Championship Point Award Series in 2011.
Grainy noted that the competition in the series gets faster every year.
It was pretty wild last year, he noted about the PMRA racing. I cannot imagine what will happen this year, but we'll be ready.
Jack's brother Sonny Grainy is crew chief for the team, with Aggy Mudra and Jack Grainy Jr helping. The team is sponsored by Niagara Auto and Grainy's Automotive.
Grainy said the team is anxiously awaiting the new season.
I am looking forward to coming back, he said. We really enjoy the series, and are pleased to be a part of it as it grows each year.
The PMRA gets underway this year with the season-opening Victoria Day Weekend Challenge at the Cayuga Dragway of Toronto Motorsports Park May 18-20.

NHRA NEWS: NHRA FINES DON SCHUMACHER RACING CREW CHIEF MIKE GREEN
GLENDORA, Calif. -- (May 1, 2012) – NHRA announced today that it has fined Mike Green, crew chief for Don Schumacher Racing, $5,000 for making a derogatory comment to an NHRA official at last weekend’s O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals at Royal Purple Raceway.
Green was fined for violation of 1.3.1 regarding participant conduct, found on page four of the 2012 NHRA Rulebook. Green must pay the fine in full prior to being allowed to participate at any future NHRA events. The fine levied by NHRA is appealable as outlined in section 1, pages 18-25 of the 2012 NHRA Rulebook.

GLENDORA, Calif. (May 1, 2012) – It was announced today that long-time member of the Division 6 Safety Team, Frank Nelson Jr., has been named NHRA Northwest Division Director (Div. 6).
“Nelson is well established in the Northwest Division and his familiarity with the racers and NHRA Member Tracks in the region, made him the ideal candidate for the job,” said Josh Peterson, vice president of racing administration at NHRA. “His entrepreneurial assets as a small business owner are well-suited to assist and grow the NHRA Member Track network in the Northwest.”
Nelson began working with the Division 6 Safety Safari in 1994 and served as safety director starting in 2007. He is a certified SFI instructor and as safety director he works with race tracks both within and outside the division on the SFI Safety Program.
Outside his duties at NHRA sanctioned events, Nelson is a managing partner of Pacific Power Batteries of Bellingham, a retail battery store in Bellingham, Wash. Prior to that, Nelson worked for Waste Management Northwest for 13 years.
“I’m excited to serve the racing community, both drivers and track owners and operators, in Division 6,” said Nelson, who resides in Lake Stevens, Wash. “I have worked for years within the Pacific Northwest and believe the relationships I have developed will advance and grow racer participation and tracks in the region.”
Nelson begins his new role as Division 6 Director May 1.
NHRA’s Northwest Division is responsible for conducting and overseeing drag racing activities in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Currently, there are 17 NHRA Member Tracks in the region including one in Idaho, two in Montana, six in Oregon, five in Washington and three in Western Canada.

Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car will return to competition right where the
legend began – in the heart of Louisiana.
Founded
by Paul Candies and Leonard Hughes of Houma, La., the legend of Candies
& Hughes has spanned six decades and has included multiple
championship and national event victories with both the IHRA and NHRA.
The team has included numerous drivers spanning that timeframe including
the likes of Hughes, Mark Oswald, Richard Tharp, Dave Settles and Leroy
Goldstein in both Top Fuel and Funny Car. In addition to collecting
dozens of wins over the years, the team also registered many firsts
including being the first team to win the Winston championships in both
Top Fuel and Funny Car and the only team to win both NHRA and IHRA
Winston championships in the same year.

the famous Candies & Hughes machine is owned by Jim Broome of
Tucson, Ariz. and piloted by Mike Savage. Savage has enjoyed keeping the
legend of Candies & Hughes alive and even returned the famous
machine to its winning ways earlier this year at the Arizona Nitro Jam
in Tucson with a victory over defending AMSOIL Prostalgia Nitro Funny
Car World Champion Peter Gallen. Savage has added two more runner-up
finishes to his resume in 2012 to head the Funny Car standings entering
the Louisiana event this weekend at State Capitol Raceway.
The
2012 Mardi Gras Nitro Jam presented by Domino's Pizza will take place
May 4-5 at State Capitol Raceway. The event will feature four nitro
classes including Pro Fuel Dragster, AMSOIL Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car,
Nitro Harley and Fuel Altered in addition to the wild Outlaw Pro Mod
class. The event will also feature an incredible show featuring jet
dragsters, jet funny cars, the 30,000 horsepower Shockwave jet semi, the
Chevy Rebellion wheelstander and the Louisiana debut of the monster
truck drag race between Grave Digger driven by Randy Brown and Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtle drive by Joey Parnell.
But
it will be Savage and the famous "Cajun Cuda" of Candies & Hughes
that will be the real star of the show as one of the most famous
machines in drag racing history returns home for two huge days of racing

ADRL Tickets On Sale For Return To Gateway Motorsports Park For Gateway Drags IV Presented By CarSafe
O'FALLON, MO (April 30, 2012) - The American Drag Racing League (ADRL) is headed back to St. Louis and fans can now secure their spot at the ADRL's highly-anticipated return to its hometown track.
The ADRL announced on Monday that tickets are now available for purchase for the Gateway Drags IV presented by CarSafe on June 1-2 at Gateway Motorsports Park (GMP). It is the fourth of 10 races on the 2012 ADRL Tour.
With new classes, a World Championship format and expanded family fun midway, there is considerable excitement surrounding the world's premier eighth-mile drag racing league as it returns to its home track, Gateway Motorsports Park.
Tickets are $15 per day and $25 for a weekend pass for adults. Children 12-under are admitted free. Tickets can be purchased at Gateway Motorsports Park by calling (618) 215-8888 ext. 101 or going to www.adrl.us/schedule/tickets. RV spots are available for $150 (this price does not include gate admission).
Discount tickets will also be available at all area O'Reilly Auto Parts stores. These tickets give fans $5 off a single-day or weekend ticket.
With special exhibition jet car runs, driver autograph sessions and much more, fans can expect maximum value from their ticket purchase.

Racing for the first time anywhere in the world in 2012 is the highly-anticipated SuperCar Showdown. The ADRL SuperCar Showdown will showcase the latest factory-produced, dealership-available automobiles in all-out drag racing with no handicap starts or performance restrictions, adding even more excitement to the ADRL's fast-paced show.
The ADRL last raced at Gateway Motorsports Park in 2010 and has drawn huge crowds each year it has raced at its home track. The 2012 season also marks the first time the Summit Racing Top Sportsman, Aeromotive Fuel Systems Pro Modified and the SuperCar Showdown have raced at GMP as part of the ADRL.
The gates open at 10 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, with the first round of qualifying on Friday set to begin at 12 p.m. On Saturday, the racing will begin at 12 p.m. with the final qualifying session. The first round of eliminations starts at 3:30 p.m., with special jet car passes and other exhibition runs concluding the evening on Friday and Saturday.

Boris Murray hospitalized

I just got off the phone with Bill Chamber, he was telling me about Boris Murray being in a bad way right now... He had to have his Pace Maker replace and they couldn't get the old one out so they put another in anyway... It seems Boris has only ten percent of his heart working... He's Still in the Hospital and they don't know when he will be able to come home... His Daughter "Tracy" is with him 24/7 right now... We all need to say a Pray for Boris to give him some more time on this earth...
