Dyno Don Nicholson - The Atlanta Years
Although not a native of Atlanta, Dyno Don Nicholson was arguably the most famous Atlanta area drag racer. Born in Missouri, Nicholson moved to southern California as a youth and grew up in the car culture. He began racing in 1949 and had racked up two consecutive NHRA Winternationals wins prior to moving to Atlanta in April, 1962.

2005 NHRA Topeka Final Results

NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Saturday, from Maple Grove Raceway, Reading, Pa.
In the final rounds of qualifying for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Northeast Division season opener, Jeff Bohr took the top spot in Top Alcohol Dragster at 5.450 seconds at 258.62 mph. In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Frank Manzo posted the only run in the 5.60's with a 5.695 second lap at 256.94 mph for the top spot.

Fassl improves in Denver
Upon conversation with doctors at St. Anthony's Hospital this morning, Fuel Altered driver Ron Fassl has continued improving. Doctors reported that Fassl was taken off of the ventilator yesterday afternoon, and with his status now being classified as stable, Fassl will be moved from the Intensive Care Unit to an upgraded level of standard care.

Small budget Top Fuelers battle on
When Top Fuel qualifying had ended on Saturday at the 41st Pontiac Performance Nationals at National Trail Raceway outside Columbus, Ohio, many of the usual suspects could be found dominating the top half of the field. But as you looked further down the qualifying list, the field was partially populated by a handful of unheralded racers who either race part-time -- or even less frequently -- and compete with a fraction of the racing budgets of the sport's biggest teams.
Fassl Injured in Bandimere AA/FA Crash
On Saturday evening at Bandimere Speedway’s Checker Auto Parts Night of Fire & Thunder, Ron Fassl completed the fastest run in history for a nitro-burning Fuel Altered. At the conclusion of the run, the vehicle never deployed the parachutes, and failed to slow for the end of the track. Fassl went into the sand and was stopped in the series of catch nets and sand traps. As of Monday at 8:00 am, Ron is at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Critical, but Stable condition. Our best wishes go out to Ron and his family.
Wacker takes off!
Swiss Pro Modified racer Peter Wacker pulled one of the biggest wheelies in the history of European drag racing at Santa Pod Raceway yesterday, during testing for this weekend's FIA Main Event. Peter's Roofer's Toy Chevy went all-four-wheels-off, stood up on its parachute pack, and started to pirouette around its broken wheelie bar before thumping down to terra firma. Former area resident travels the land with jet-powered dragster, anti-drug message
Students got an end of the year surprise, paid for with a GREAT grant and funds from the Onalaska Police Reserves, was an up-close look at the world's fastest police car. This was no souped-up Crown Vic. The sixth-graders got a chance to see the Interceptor, a sleek black-and-white custom-made funny car whose body tilts up to reveal a 12,000-horsepower jet engine.

After setting a record of 6.85 seconds at a top speed of 333.85kmph in the quarter-mile on Wednesday, Aryan bettered it by more than a hundredths of a second clocking 6.711 seconds with a top speed of 343.38kmph.

With only 130,000 living on the small Caribbean island about 70 kilometres north of Venezuela, the estimated 20,000 who take in the Queen's Day weekend drag racing represent more then 15 per cent of the entire population. This year's competition was the 25th Jubilee Queen Beatrix Drag Classic, although racing at the track dates back to 1971.

Rain is kind of a drag, wipes out event at Martin
Jessie Harris is awfully fast, but she wasn't able to outrun the rain. Harris, the 22-year old driver of the Bic Lighter Queen of Diamonds Jet Dragster, made two 300 mph passes during Saturday's Toyo Tires NMRA Ford Nationals, and she was hoping for more of the same Sunday. However, Harris' 6,000 horsepower missile never made it out of the pits.
Meyer, Jones among winners at Texas Motorplex's NHRA Lucas Oil event
NHRA South Central division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competitors put another event in the books today at Texas Motorplex. Randy Meyer set the pace in Top Alcohol Dragster, taking his first win of the season while Jimmy Jones scored his first win of the year from the No. 7 qualifying position in Top Alcohol Funny Car.
